  • Google TV Freeplay is adding 48 new FAST channels in the US, taking its library total to over 250
  • The wave of channels includes free entertainment and sports viewing, with a lot of new additions from NBC Universal
  • As well as entertainment and sports, Google is investing in bringing more local news channels to its library of FAST viewing

Google is expanding its scope of free-to-stream content once again, and the company has added 48 new free channels to its ad-supported Google TV Freeplay service in the US – surpassing 250 library channels in total.

In recent months, Google has been expanding its range of FAST 24/7 content allowing viewers to access their favorite movies and shows with no added cost or need for an account. Google jumped on the free streaming trend in 2023 when it launched its flagship free-of-charge service, but was known simply as ‘free channels’ before it rebranded to Google TV Freeplay in 2024.

As streaming giants such as Netflix and Disney+ continue to hike their prices and frustrate subscribers in the process, more users are turning to the best free streaming services as alternatives – so it’s no surprise that Google has doubled down on its commitment to free streaming.

With that said, Google’s plethora of free streaming channels isn’t limited to what’s available on Google TV Freeplay. Due to the company’s partnerships with FAST services such as Plex, Pluto TV, Tubi, and more, you can access over 1,000 free channels through the ‘Live’ tab on the Google TV homescreen.

As mentioned, Google’s new FAST channels are currently US-only, but there are countless free streaming alternatives if you’re based elsewhere. If you’re in the UK, Freely is one of the leading live TV and on-demand FAST services, which plans to add even more channels in 2026 – so this is definitely a platform to check out if you want to explore your FAST options further.
