Google Inc. plans to impose fees on smartphone makers that want to pre-install its Google Play app and services for devices sold in Europe

The company said these fees come as a commitment to the antitrust ruling by the European Commission in July, in which the EU imposed a 4.3 billion euros ($5 billion) fine on Google, the German News Agency reported.

According to a blog post by Alphabet-owned Google published in Bloomberg, the new licensing structure will take effect on October 29. So now the company will start charging a licensing fee on new models of smartphones that install Google Play and Google's popular apps like Gmail, YouTube and Google Maps. Smartphone manufacturers will also be able to add Google browser and Google Chrome for free or install any alternative applications.
