Google has taken more London office space it emerged on Wednesday, as the search engine behemoth seeks to make sure there is enough immediate room to grow ahead of its major new £1 billion Kings Cross HQ opening.
The Silicon Valley firm has agreed to take over about 20,000 square of space formerly used by WPP's Burson-Marsteller at the Central St Giles building. That could accommodate around 180 workers.
Google already has offices within the same block as well as other London properties.
The firm currently has over 4000 staff in the capital. It plans to move to a swanky new headquarters in Kings Cross in the next few years. There will be space there for some 4500 employees.
It is understood the new deal at Central St Giles will provide comfort that the company can recruit more employees if and when needed before the relocation. There are concerns by some businesses that high end West End available office space is running low.
Property agents CBRE and James Andrew International advised on the letting.
All parties declined to comment.
