Google’s New Opal Tool Turns Prompts into Apps

Google has launched a new experimental tool named Opal. It allows you to create AI-powered mini apps by combining prompts, models, and tools. And the best part about this tool is that you don’t have to write a single line of code. Built inside Google Labs, Opal is now available in public beta for U.S. users.

Unlike traditional app development tools, Opal allows you to create “workflows” using simple natural language and visual interfaces, whether it’s for building prototypes, demonstrating AI-based concepts, or creating productivity tools.

In order to use the tool, you just have to describe what you want the app to do, and Opal translates that into a visual workflow. It also allows you to chain together multiple prompts and model calls, tweak them through a drag-and-drop interface, or simply use natural language commands to adjust or extend functionality.

Once done, you can share these mini apps with others, who can run them using their own Google accounts. To help new users get started, Opal includes a demo gallery with ready-to-use templates, which can either be used as-is or modified to suit individual needs.

While still experimental, Opal adds to a growing list of AI tools that Google has launched in recent times. For example, recently the company rolled out Gemini 2.5 Flash-Lite, a lighter and faster AI model designed for real-time applications like translation and classification. Apart from that, the company has introduced conversational image segmentation, which allows developers to describe parts of an image in plain language and get targeted visual feedback.

Along with the AI models, the company is also launching new features. The other day, it launched a “Try-On” feature in the U.S., which allows you to virtually try on clothes from search and image results.

While the majority of these features are limited to users in the U.S., I am expecting that some of these features will roll out to other regions as well. But when and where that is something only time will tell. Until then, if you want to stay updated with all the latest tech and AI news, make sure you join us on WhatsApp.
