Google is set to release its latest Quarterly Platform Release, QPR2, next week on Monday, March 11 in the United States. This update will bring new features and bug fixes to Google Pixel phones. However, the upcoming QPR3, which will be the June Pixel Feature Drop, has already reached beta 2 and is causing significant issues that users should be cautious about.
The latest beta release of Google Android has been reported to potentially brick Pixel phones if installed through sideloading. Several Pixel devices, including the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel Fold, experienced issues where they got stuck on the Pixel logo after the installation process. However, a workaround has been found by entering Recovery mode and sideloading the Beta 1 OTA version.
To avoid potential problems, users are advised to install the update through the System Update option in Settings > System > Software Updates on their Pixel devices. This method may take longer than sideloading but ensures a smoother installation process.
For those who are determined to sideload the beta, enabling OEM Unlock before installation is recommended. The beta software, designed for Pixels from the Pixel 5a onwards, primarily focuses on fixing bugs, addressing device crashes, and enhancing system stability.
The previous beta release in February had issues such as device crashes, black screen displays, and other stability problems, which the new update aims to rectify. Users interested in participating in the beta program can enroll through the Android Beta Program and provide feedback through the Android Beta Feedback app.
