Google Pixel 10 problems — Pixelsnap accessories are overheating already

Pixel 10 vs Pixelsnap stand charger .

There was a lot of excitement for Google's new line of Pixelsnap accessories, revealed alongside the Google Pixel 10 series. However, after only a few weeks, some issues have already started to appear.

The first, and biggest, problem has to do with reports that wireless charging with the new ring stand leads to the phones hitting very high temperatures. One Pixel 10 Pro user reported that, after leaving their phone to charge on the Pixel Stand 2 overnight, they found it was like “touching the side of a kettle the next morning.

Other users have since reported similar complaints, including the charger throttling mid-cycle, capped battery levels and failing accessories.

This isn't the first time we've seen these issues arise, as there have been several complaints about the Pixel 2 stand and wireless charging in general. For instance, it seems that the Pixel 10 series runs much hotter than the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 did during wireless charging. There's also inconsistent performance across a variety of wireless chargers, including third-party Qi2 chargers and Google’s official stand.

Having a phone overheat is a big issue, and one that should be taken seriously by users. While we can't say for certain what the issue is, it looks like Google might need to fine-tune the hardware and software.

Until we know more, I'd suggest owners avoid charging the phone wirelessly overnight, especially with the Pixel Ring attached.

Loose screws

Speaking of the Pixelsnap Ring Stand, it looks like there might be an issue with some of the screws used to hold the ring in place.

The complaint has been mentioned several times on Reddit, with users claiming the two screws holding the ring portion to the magnetic stand are coming undone. For instance, one user reported that the screws had completely fallen out and become wedged between the case and the stand. While another claimed that the ring was loose after only two days of use, and was unable to hold the weight of the phone.

Some users have reported being able to tighten the screws in the stand with a precision Torx driver. However, it looks like even the closest fit, a T2, is still a little loose, and even then, they’re not the easiest tools to find on a whim. As such, the best solution will likely be to take the accessory back to where you bought it.

Teething problems like this are nothing new, although the temperature problem is certainly one that I'll be keeping an eye on.

Teething problems like this are nothing new, although the temperature problem is certainly one that I'll be keeping an eye on. If it continues, or even starts to get worse, then it could spell serious trouble for Google in the near future, which is the last thing the company wants after the recent issues with the Pixel 6a.

Let me know if you've had any issues with your Google Pixel 10, Google Pixel 10 Pro or Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixelsnap accessories in the comments below, or — on the other hand — if they're all working perfectly and this is, in fact, just a big nothingburger.
