Google Pixel 10 launch recap: Jimmy Fallon presents Made By Google for Pixel's 10th birthday

Google Pixel event 2025.

In case you missed it, Google celebrated the Pixel's 10th birthday by putting on a Pixel 10 launch event that was, well, like no other launch event before it.

Jimmy Fallon hosted the show – which was more like a chat show in format – with a bevy of sports personalities, celebrities and stars, as the backdrop to the latest Google hardware.

Launched was the Google Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold, Buds Pro 3, and Buds 2A. The news went live a full hour before Jimmy Fallon took to the stage, in the most consumer-targeted launch event of recent memory.

If you didn't tune in then you can see T3's news story highlights below, after which the original live blog coverage continues, if you want to catch up on everything as it happened.

Original Live Blog Continues Below

It's time for Google to reveal its latest hardware at Made by Google 25, with a trio of Pixel handsets, a new Fold, and a new Watch expected to be launched as part of the event.

That said, it's not thought that Google's approach for this year's event will be typical by any means – a teaser, including special guest attendees, has been revealed, suggesting a radically different approach.

That means Made by Google 25 could be a lot of fun to spectate. There might be fewer deep-dives into Gemini's upgraded AI brain and more party vibes for the latest launch.

Either way, now that Pixel is about to have its 10th anniversary, we're here to follow along step-by-step and reveal all the latest Google goings-on as part of the reveal today. Stay tuned!

'Get out your comfort phone'

Same, same, different. This year's Pixel 10 series isn't expected to be radically different to the Pixel 9 series – save for the obligatory jump in processor and some general upgrades.

What is anticipated to be a whole new departure, however, is the Made by Google event itself. This isn't going to be an AI deep-dive, as per so many keynotes, but a wider adventure.

The event, to be held live in NYC, is teased to have showings from Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Curry, Lando Norris, The Jonas Brothers, and more. You can see the teaser on X, below:

Watching Made by Google live

Morning, news editor Rik Henderson here for a bit to update you on Pixel shenanigans, and first up are details on how to watch the launch event live.

We're actually hosting the Made by Google 25 livestream right here on T3, so you can watch it along with us later today. Alternatively, it will be streamed on the dedicated Made by Google YouTube channel, if you'd prefer to head there instead.

As Mike alluded to earlier, it will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon, who also teased that there may be some surprises beyond the devices we already expect. Although I'm not particularly sure he wasn't just joking.

Evolution not revolution

If you're expecting a major design change with this year's Pixel phones, don't. It seems that there will only be fractional changes to the look and feel of the Pixel 10 series.

However, we are expecting a few bells and whistles on the inside to make up for it.

One exciting new addition is said to be QI2 wireless charging and a MagSafe-style system to keep your charger in place. That almost does it for me on its own.

Meet the family

Along with individual videos and images of the phones, a "family" shot of all the devices expected today was leaked several weeks ago.

It also shows what we believe to be the Pixel Buds 2a and Pixel Watch 4.

One thing missing from the line-up above is the Pixel Buds Pro 2 in the new Moonstone colour for 2025. But considering that's literally just another colourway for an existing device, that's not really a surprise.

Leaves on the track

While there will be plenty of exciting announcements during Made by Google, there might also be one or two disappointments – especially if you'll looking to upgrade to the Pixel 10 Pro Fold or Watch 4.

It has been claimed that while they will be unveiled today, there could be a delay in getting them into stores. They may not even be available until October, in fact.

Alleged supply chain problems have apparently forced Google to concentrate on its core Android phones first, then follow up with the release of the rest of the products. We'll find out more later.

Milestone Birthday

Hello Google lovers! T3 Senior Staff Writer, Sam Cross, joining you for a bit here. And while all of the focus is likely to be on the new goodies from the brand, it's worth remembering that this is also the tenth anniversary of Pixel devices.

Things have changed a lot over the years, with the device range growing and evolving. I'm willing to bet there'll be at least a passing tribute to those which paved the way today – the brand even posted the video below on Twitter recently.

Hey there best bud

We've put a lot of attention on the phones the brand look set to launch here, but there's also talk of a new pair of earbuds. The Google Pixel Buds 2a would sit within the brand's more affordable audio subset, and could make a real splash.

Leaked information also suggests they'll enjoy active noise cancellation, a respectable seven hour battery life, and spatial audio – not bad for budget buds!

What's the charge?

(Image credit: 91 Mobiles / OnLeaks)

While we're ducking away from phones for a second, let's also talk about the expected new smartwatch – the Google Pixel Watch 4. Leaked videos and images suggest Google will be sticking to its design guns here, with only a gentle revision when compared to its other wearables.

Perhaps the most interesting change is side-mounted charging pins. We haven't had a proper good look at them – every leak seems to show them for only a second – but it's at least a point of interest for the new device.

The best Pixel colour returns

One rumour I'm incredibly excited by concerns the colours of the phones. A few bring back a hue which appears to mimic the Google Pixel 7 Pro in Hazel, which was without a doubt my favourite phone design ever! Listen to more of my excitement, below:

May contain stars

Let's also take a moment to talk about the event itself. While these things are normally an elaborate slideshow with a few marketing videos thrown in for good measure, this one sounds... different.

For starters, the legendary Jimmy Fallon will be hosting proceedings, while notable celebrities like Stephen Curry, Lando Norris and the Jonas Brothers are expected, too. We're not entirely sure what's going to happen there, but it sure sounds like a party.

Currently, we're just waiting for confirmation of one more notable name on the guest list – Dan's Duck.

The future is now, old man

(Image credit: Future / Chris Hall)

While there's lots of talk about the shiny new goodness we're expecting from the range, it's worth noting a persistent rumour which would see something removed. That concerns the physical SIM card slot, which is said to be disappearing on these handsets.

We were initially sceptical, but the rumour has persisted. The good news for almost everyone is that it seems to be restricted to the USA variant of the device, if the change arrives at all.

Like water off a Pixel 10 Pro Fold...

Another rumour which has persistently been doing the rounds for a few weeks concerns the new foldable phone we're expecting. According to reports, the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold will feature a world-first IP68 water and dust resistance rating on a foldable phone.

If it proves true, that will mark a significant moment for the brand and the sector. These devices have come on leaps and bounds in recent years, but durability will always be a concern. This could prove to be an important differentiator for Google in a packed market for top-notch folding devices.

What's in a name?

We don't really expect any drastic change on this front, but one subplot that always comes up when a company like Google is preparing as big an event as today's is likely to be – naming conventions.

Most of Google's Pixel hardware has fairly predictable annual naming systems, but I can't be the only person who found the Pixel 9 Pro Fold a little wordy – something about having the "Pro" before the "Fold" just feels wrong, and trips me up every time. If I were Google, I'd be having a look at that, and letting the "Fold" speak for itself in terms of premium design. Then again, I'm not a big-budget brand consultant, so what do I know?

Time to take the fight to Apple on wearables?

As mentioned below in a few posts, we're expecting to see a Pixel Watch 4 today at the launch event, and that's always an interesting proposition. It's taken Google a fair few years to get into position to properly challenge the slickness of an Apple Watch, but it's still miles better than where it was half a decade back.

Now, Android smartwatches finally feel truly integrated into your phone, and the Pixel Watch 4 has to represent a chance to cement that impression. If Google can present more than just a standard iterative upgrade, it could quietly be one of the most important devices shown off today.

Qi2 at last!?

Of all the innovations in phone batteries and charging from the past half decade, I'm pretty frustrated that one hasn't become more widely used: Qi2. The new wireless charging standard adds a ring of magnets to ensure that your phone is always aligned securely, and is cribbed directly from Apple's superb MagSafe system.

For some reason, it simply hasn't been picked up much by Android phone brands, but some leaks have suggested that the Pixel 10 lineup will finally adopt the system. Trust me, once you use it for a few weeks, you'll be unable (or unwilling) to go back to regular wireless charging, with all of its haphazard placement and risk.

Of course, leaks are all well and good, but we'll actually know in a few hours, so I've got some fingers crossed for the charger-heads out there.

Will the price be right?

Another common question each time the likes of Google, Apple or Samsung holds a big reveal event like this is whether the brand in question will manage to make a difference on pricing. After all, we're now at least a year into what feels like a period of inevitable pricing inflation (no one mention the tariffs).

Google will probably consider it a win if it can keep its prices flat and avoid any year-on-year rises, although there's no guarantees on that front. If, on the other hand, it can creep any of the prices lower, this could be a fantastic time to stand out from the market. We'll see what it manages in a few hours.

Tripling down on AI

It's the middle of 2025, so if you're hoping that Google might not waffle on about AI features for the Pixel lineup throughout much of today's event, you should probably readjust your expectations. Gemini is now a huge part of its plans, and there will be a near-guaranteed raft of new features and upgrades for the assistant this time around.

Exactly what those will comprise isn't too easy to guess, though. Google's always testing new features, and I'd expect that Gemini will be getting boosts to some it already offers (like image erasers and video editing tools). Beyond that, it'll be interesting to see how much enthusiasm Jimmy Fallon can summon up about new AI chat functions.

No hope for small-phone lovers

Look, there's no pretending this battle can still be won, but again, when these launch events roll around, spare a thought for those who like small phones. The fact is that the Pixel 10 is almost entirely guaranteed to be the smallest phone in the lineup that Google launches today, and it's not exactly going to be tiny.

Since Apple discontinued the iPhone mini, we've basically had no real mainstream options for those who want a smaller handset, and that's unlikely to change today. If Google's listening, think about bringing out a Pixel 10 mini – I can guarantee you'll get a very vocal albeit small population of diehard fans from it.

Getting closer

News editor Rik back for a bit and as we're just over an hour away from Made by Google 25, it's worth reiterating that you'll be able to watch the entire show right here on T3.

Google hasn't revealed how long it will last but last year's event ran for an hour and 20 minutes, so make sure you have a snack and a drink ready in case.

Google Pixel 10 now official

Here's a surprise! Even though Made by Google doesn't start for another hour, we've been allowed to publish our pieces on the entire new launch line-up.

So here's all the official news:

Of course, there are still the new buds to come, and maybe a surprise or two. But if you want to know about all of the main devices early, here's your chance.

An interesting order

Suffice to say that it's pretty unusual for Google to have ordered things the way it has done for this event. Normally, we expect companies to set their press embargoes for when their presentations are over, not when they haven't yet begun.

This time around, though, Google has gone with the latter, and there are plenty of impressions pieces and write-ups flooding the web as we speak – you can see ours below, of course.

Here's one very optimistic take on things: this could mean that Google has something even more surprising up its sleeve for the event itself. Otherwise, why take the wind out of its own sails by letting the media get the jump on its event?

Colour us interested

Another year, another set of colours to assess when it comes to the Pixel lineup, and my gut feeling is that the winner this time is the returning Indigo, which is just so poppy and loud – in the right way.

It's a shame it's only for the base Pixel 10, and not the Pixel 10 Pro, since the latter has more "mature" frosted colours that honestly don't look half as fun. Still, it's probably true that a whole heap of people don't want their phone to stand out in the first place, and the more muted colours will likely sell more.

Back in the hotseat

Hi there Googlers! It is I, Mike Lowe, back in play – from afar, as I'm also at Gamescom reporting on the Asus ROG Xbox Ally X – to report on the incoming Made By Google show.

Except, what's this? Everything has already been announced? Yep, that's right, Google really is going about this a very different way for the Pixel's 10th Anniversary.

So what can we expect? Is it Jimmy Fallon The Google Show Edition? We'll be finding out imminently, as there's only 4 minutes to go until it's curtains up...

Jimmy Fallon: 'Why do a live event?'

Jimmy asked it to Google's Rik Osterloh: "Why do it like this? Why do a live event?"

"Why not have a game-changing launch event. It's gonna be pretty different. But I hope people like it!"

Gemini everywhere

Gemini – Google's AI solution – is going to be everywhere. Phones, tablets, even coming to glasses. None of which is new information, but here we a

The Jimmy Fallon Google Show is highlighting various known Gemini features, from Circle to Search, to Car Crash Detection.

What's next for AI?

"We're trying to make your phone more personal and more proactive," says Google's Osterloh.

Generative AI will be a big deal too, with Google's Veo able to make videos from prompts.

You'll need a Google AI Pro subscription, though, which you'll get for free for a year with the purchase of a Pixel 10 Pro or Fold product.

What's next with product?

"Some companies build their phones to lock you in and force you to use their devices in only one way," says Adrienne Lofton, Google's Global Vice President of Product & Integrated Consumer Marketing.

There have been seven new devices revealed today: the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel Watch 4, Pixel Buds Pro 2, and Pixel Buds 2A.

Now it's time for Pixel 10 demos

"My inbox is out of control" There's a new Pixel 10 feature called Magic Cue.

It uses Gemini to understand what you're trying to do and then connects all the dots across your phone, to automate suggestions based on previous messages and other apps.

Magic Cue can do more than just find the information you need, such as searching for the photos you need on your phone, or dialling a relevant number.

It's the first step of personalised AI experiences.

New camera features

Alex Cooper, host of the podcast Call Her Daddy, takes to the stage.

In an opportunity to show off Google's photo editing prompts, she shows the Pixel's camera in full effect, prompting to get her selfie with Jimmy Fallon re-framed and lighting adjusted. It all happens in the Camera app.

Camera Coach is also on board to suggest poses, using Gemini to suggest how to take the optimum photo with step-by-step assistance.

Legendary photographer, Andre D Wagner, also presents his Pixel 10 Pro selection of shots, including 50-megapixel Portrait mode to full effect.

Top-end video features too

The next celebrity selection, the Jonas Brothers, are promoting their new video – shot on Pixel 10.

Yes, there's 8K, there's Video Boost, there's lots of fantastic video features beyond just the stills capture options.

Live Translate is here

Google also has a live translation feature, but it goes up a notch using Gemini AI – by presenting in each speakers' voice.

It can do so in a number of languages, and will now be coming to Mexico for the first time in the Pixel 10 series.

It's workout time!

Cody Rigsby shows off the Pixel Watch 4, including promoting the Peleton activities you can do with the device.

The Fitbit app has been completely redesigned, too, coming this October. "Shaped by athletes, built by Gemini".

One final big announcement?

"Everyone should have their personal health coach," says Google's Osterloh.

"We've hired a new performance advisor to help". And it's none other than NBA star, Stephen Curry.

Google brings the tech experience, Curry brings the real-life experience.

Google is clearly rolling out the big guns on this one. And it's back to the Jonas Brothers to finish...

Well, that was... weird?

A launch event like no other. That's certainly been true. Hats off to Google for going with something different – I'm sure it's split opinion.

And with the Jonas Brothers singing in the background – and my Mac's volume rapidly switched down – I'm off to digest the whole experience...
