Google is updating two of its most used tools: Meet and Docs. The changes include better screen-sharing features in Meet and improved functionality for encrypted documents in Docs. If we take a combined look at all the updates, it appears that the tech giant aims to make virtual collaboration smoother and more secure. So, let’s take a closer look at Google’s latest updates:
Google Meet Updates

Meet is getting a new feature that will allow you to present content directly from an external camera feed like a document camera, microscope, or professional video setup. This feature can be especially useful for educators, businesses hosting town halls, or professionals sharing specialized equipment feeds. It also supports up to 1080p resolution at 30 frames per second. Along with that, the screen-sharing feature is also getting an upgrade:
- Starting a screen share (whether it’s a full desktop, window, or browser tab) is now faster.
- Video quality during sharing is sharper, especially for dynamic content like scrolling text or embedded videos.
- If one presenter stops sharing, the previous presentation automatically resumes, reducing disruptions.
- The screen-sharing button is now bigger and better placed for easier access.
These updates are rolling out gradually, starting June 4 for Rapid Release domains and June 11 for Scheduled Release domains. It will be available for all the users of Google Workspace plans, including Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and select Education tiers.
Google Docs Updates

In Google Docs, the focus is on improving functionality for client-side encrypted documents. The tech giant now allows you to see and interact with suggestions in the encrypted files, just like in regular Docs. That means you can now comment, suggest edits, and accept or reject changes while your document remains protected by encryption keys that only you control.
This brings encrypted Docs closer in experience to standard ones without compromising on security. The encrypted Docs update is rolling out to both Rapid and Scheduled Release domains starting June 4. It is available to Google Workspace Enterprise Plus, Education Standard, and Education Plus, as well as Frontline Plus customers.
