Google announced at an online event the launch of two new models of its Pixel smartphone, which will be compatible with 5G technology, hoping to increase its market share.
The Pixel 4a 5G, an improved version of the Pixel 4a released earlier this year, will be sold from $499 on October 15, in nine countries including the United States and France. The more powerful and resilient Pixel 5 will start on the same date and in the same countries from $699.
By announcing smartphones compatible with 5G in September, Google is ahead of its competitor Apple, which has not yet unveiled its 5G iPhone.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed in a blog post that Google Inc. will pay publishers $1 billion for their content.
"This financial commitment will pay publishers to create and curate high-quality content for a different kind of online news experience.
Pichai continued that News Showcase, a new product by Google, will appear first on Google News on Android, then Apple iOS.
Google signed partnerships for News Showcase with nearly 200 leading publications across Germany, Brazil, Argentina, Canada, the UK and Australia.
The publications include Der Spiegel, Stern, Die Zeit, Folha de S Paulo, Band and Infobae alongside regionally and locally significant publications such as El Litoral, GZH, WAZ and SooToday.
The number of news publications will grow as we work to expand News Showcase to other countries including India, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The News Showcase will also appear in Google Discover and Search in the future.
