Google launches a Canva alternative, called Pomelli

Google has launched a new experimental marketing tool called Pomelli that promises to generate on‑brand social posts and ad creatives from the company’s website. The tool is built in partnership with Google DeepMind, and is available in public Beta in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

The idea here is simple: Google thinks that small and midsize businesses often don’t have the time, budget, or design resources to produce consistent marketing content. Pomelli aims to cut that friction by analyzing a company’s site and spinning up campaign ideas and assets that match its look and tone. Here’s how it works:

  • Build your Business DNA: You enter a website URL. Pomelli scans the site and existing images to derive a brand profile including tone of voice, fonts, color palette, and imagery.
  • Generate campaign ideas: With that profile set, Pomelli proposes campaign directions tailored to the business. You can also type your own prompt to steer the concept.
  • Create and edit assets: The tool outputs a set of social, site, and ad creatives aligned to the brand profile. You can edit text and images in‑tool, then download the assets for use across channels.

However, it’s important to keep in mind that Pomelli is an experiment and says quality may take time to dial in. Plus, the Beta is only available in English and restricted to four countries. Apart from that, the company didn’t share details on how site data, uploaded assets, or generated creatives are stored or used. That might play an important role in adoption. Plus, just like with other gen‑AI tools, human review will still be needed for compliance, tone, and claims.

According to the company feedback from this Beta will shape the future of this tool, but it hasn’t announced pricing or timelines for broader rollout. For now, Pomelli gives Google another entry point into the AI‑assisted marketing tools space. Though it’s not going to be easy for the company as they will have to face competition from the likes of Canva, Adobe Express, and Meta’s AI ad tools, all pitching faster creative production for marketers.
