Google is offering students 12 months of free access to its One AI Premium Plan in select countries. Starting from today, college students over the age of 18 in the U.S., Japan, Indonesia, Korea, and Brazil can sign up for the plan for completely free.
With this free offering, the company is pushing its support for AI education and job training. According to Sundar Pichai’s latest blog post, the company is investing $1 billion into programs to make AI skills and resources more accessible, especially in the U.S.

What Students Get with the Free Google AI Pro Plan?
Students who sign up before October 6 will get a free 12-month Google AI Pro plan. This includes access to Gemini 2.5 Pro, which can help with writing, math, coding, and more. They’ll also get Deep Research to quickly find detailed info from across the web, and NotebookLM to help organise notes and study materials, now with both audio and video support.
Furthermore, for all the creative work, students will get Veo 3 support, which can turn text or images into short videos with sound. Besides, coding help is also available through Jules, an AI tool that can fix bugs and build features. Plus, students get 2TB of storage space on Google Drive, Gmail, and Photos.
New Guided Learning Mode

Along with the free student plan, the tech giant has introduced Guided Learning, a new mode in Gemini which is designed to support how students learn, and not just what they learn. So instead of just giving an answer, this new feature walks students through the steps, helping them understand the reasoning behind concepts.
The company has developed this tool in collaboration with educators, learning experts, and students, ensuring that the feature aligns with how people actually absorb new material. However, it looks like something similar to ChatGPT’s recently launched Study Mode, which also walks students through problems using interactive prompts.
More Study-Focused Features in Gemini
The latest Gemini update also includes more tools, especially tailored to learners of all levels. It includes integrated visuals, which deliver high-quality images, diagrams, and YouTube videos to explain concepts better. Besides, there are new exam prep tools as well, which can generate flashcards and study guides based on classroom materials.
That’s not all, the other day the company also released its new Storybook feature, which can turn any idea into a visually attractive 10-page storybook. I played with the feature for a bit and was quite impressed.
