Google Drive and Gmail down with users around globe reporting issues with messages and files

Hordes of frustrated users around the globe are reporting issues linked to Gmail and Google Drive.

Many of the problems are centered on Europe and Australia with the largest surge in reported issues taking place earlier this morning.

Outage tracker site DownDetector began to notice problems from around 7.24am BST.

Some 61 per cent reported having problems attaching items to an email, with others reporting log-in issues and difficulites receiving and sending messages, reports MailOnline.

The main issues with Google Drive was file syncing, causing 68 per cent of all reported problems. The cause behind the difficulties is currently unknown.

Reports of a drop in connectivity came from all over the world, including India, Australia, the US and Britain.

One user called Dezza posted on the Downdetector forum: "Anyone having trouble with the chrome browser? Crazy slow at loading anything. Internet fine, other browsers fine. Cleared cache, cookies, clean up, history, updated, etc. But still slow"

Others went on social media to register the problem.

There were reports of users claiming they were seeing a message which said: 'Oops something went wrong'.

Others received a pop-up box which read 'Message could not be sent. Check your network and try again'.
