Google down - service investigates as users can't access mail or YouTube

Google engineers are investigating a reported problem preventing some users in the UK from accessing services - including email and Youtube.

At 10.30am Google said: "Our team is continuing to investigate this issue. We will provide an update by 12 Nov 2021, 11:00 UTC with more information about this problem. Thank you for your patience. The affected users are unable to access Gmail.

"Some users in Europe may experience issues when attempting to access services."

The investigation includes Google Calendar, Chat, Groups and Meet with users saying they are also having trouble with YouTube.

DownDetectorUK, an analytics account, said problems had started at just before 8:45am.

According to DownDetectorUK, more than 1,000 reported problems with Google in the last few hours, reports The Mirror.

At least 400 people have outlined similar issues with YouTube - which is owned by Google.

The outages appear to have impacted the UK most heavily.

But users in countries such as Spain and Kenya are also reporting problems.

People in the United States appear to be largely unaffected.

It not immediately clear what's responsible for the blackout or what proportion of users are affected.

Many Gmail users appear to be getting a 502 error when trying to access their emails.

It reads: "The server encountered a temporary error and could not complete your request."
