Google chief laments newsprint decline

Google chief executive Eric Schmidt, talking at an Advertising Age seminar in Los Angeles, about the "bleak" outlook for newspapers: "The optimism is that there are more people online than ever, older businesses will discover how to monetise and we will all get through this. I would love that to be true. The evidence does not support that view." He said it was "a tragedy," in part because "investigative reporting is so important for democracy."
