Google has scrapped plans to launch a dedicated mobile application for AI Studio, opting instead to integrate its native AI app-building capabilities directly into Gemini, just months after unveiling the project at Google I/O 2026.
Google AI Studio is a web-based platform that allows users, developers and beginners to experiment with, test and refine prompts using Google’s Gemini family of artificial intelligence (AI) models directly through a web browser. The platform eliminates the need for complex coding or software installation.
The proposed mobile app was originally conceived as a developer and app-creation tool designed to streamline workflows and improve accessibility for both professional developers and everyday users.
However, the tech giant reportedly concluded that introducing a standalone AI Studio app could compromise the user experience by making the process less intuitive and potentially creating unnecessary confusion for its user base.
According to a post from the official Google AI Studio account on X, formerly known as Twitter, more than 800,000 users across iOS and Android had already pre-registered to download the app before the cancellation was announced.
Looking ahead, the Google AI Studio team emphasised that the future of AI will extend beyond basic question-and-answer interactions and text generation. Instead, AI is expected to evolve toward instantly building micro-applications tailored to address specific user needs on demand.
