Lady Bowthorpe finally won a Group 1 with a power-packed performance in the Qatar Nassau Stakes.
Second to all-conquering Palace Pier in the Lockinge and an unlucky fourth at Newmarket, William Jarvis' charge gained a breakthrough success at the highest level.
Kieran Shoemark had the mare positioned on the outside and she showed a smart turn of foot to beat Zeyaadah to the gold medal, with Joan of Arc back in third.
Newmarket trainer William Jarvis, saddling his first Group 1 winner since 1994, said: “It feels fantastic – we’ve dreamt about this for a long time. We knew she was always special, and I’m so chuffed for the team at home more than anything because they work so hard – we only have seven or eight staff.
“I was confident she’d stay. I was a little worried about Roger’s (Varian) filly (Zeyaadah) – because she wasn’t stopping – but I knew we had that turn of foot. She relaxes so much better now – she’s a superstar."
For Kieran Shoemark it was a first triumph at the top tier of the sport, having been on board the mare for her last three outings.
“I’m pretty speechless.," he told ITV Racing.
"This means so much, not just for me but for (owner) Emma (Banks) and William Jarvis too.
"She was unlucky in the Falmouth. I’m delighted for them all, and they’ll be able to celebrate it tonight. She’s an amazing filly."
