Beautiful! I want to congratulate Fiona Reynolds for her article It’s time to open our eyes to beauty, and the Guardian Weekly for having given it a respectable place in the 10 June issue.
I want to testify that you already heed her advice, and you always have. I do not know if it was just a coincidence or if it was planned that the two short pieces on the same page also treated the same topic from other angles.
I have been enjoying the Weekly without interruption for more than 35 years now. Since I am an architect, a writer and an editor myself, I fully understand what Fiona means and endorse her plea: there is so much beauty around us, not only in the nature surrounding us – in the trees, flowers, cloudy skies at sunrise or at sunset – but also in the smile or tears of a grandchild, that we tend to ignore or we just do not notice in the continuous bombardment of violent news by the media.
That’s one of the main characteristics that differentiate the Weekly from other publications. Your pages are full of good news, hopeful signs in all fields. Your analyses of world affairs are not pessimistic.
I always discover new achievements in culture, in science, even on politics. And I always start reading the Weekly beginning with the last page, which always smells fresh with a new idea. Thank you!
