Life is all about people, and when their roots are in different continents, with English as the unifying factor, four English language trainers formed the Dornbirner Crossword Club, using the weekly crosswords from the Guardian Weekly as their focal point.
Who are we? Ulrike, a subscriber of the Guardian Weekly, and an Austrian by birth, spent 12 years living in New Zealand; Bronwyn (missing in the photo), our literary expert, heralds from Texas; Roger, bringing the masculine perspective to the table, is from Britain; and Gudrun, a South African citizen residing in Austria. Together, we represent the four continents at this Friday morning activity.
Adding to the ambience is the laid-back atmosphere of our chosen venue, Cafesito, where an international-minded clientele meets for the best coffee in Dornbirn, the largest town in Vorarlberg, Austria.
We love the international flavour of the Guardian Weekly articles, and besides using the Quick Crossword at our meetings, the Maslanka puzzles serve as brainteasers in our classes, but we do miss the English language learning section, which helped to keep us in touch with mother-tongue usage.
Your newspaper keeps us well grounded in the English-speaking world, for which we would like to thank you very much.
