I first discovered the Guardian as an au pair in London in 1968. At first, I had to check every other word in the dictionary but I did learn, and then subscribed to the Guardian Weekly.
It has been a most faithful companion during many years in France, then in Algeria and finally in Canada.
When my children would ask ‘Where did you get that information?’ the answer would always be either Guardian Weekly or Le Monde Diplomatique. These papers were always somewhere around the house.
I always read the Weekly from the front page to the very end (except the Sports section, and I can’t do the crosswords!). Throughout the years, it has changed a lot, and I guess I have changed with it. Recently I have been reading it on my tablet and my new subscription will be without the paper version. I might just miss it!
In all those years, I never met anyone else who reads the Guardian Weekly and, like Lorna Kaino recently, I would love to discuss ideas with a community of GW readers. Perhaps something similar to Friends of Le Monde Diplomatique, who meet and talk or organise the projection of films or documentaries?
You probably know that the World Social Forum meeting of civil society organizations is going to take place in Montreal this August.
I live in Ottawa and believe it would be a good opportunity to get together.
