Good to meet you ... Derek Malpass

GTMY Derek Malpass
Good to meet you … Derek and Marga Malpass.

Being a regular reader of the Guardian Weekly is like belonging to an international club, a group of erudite, concerned and witty members who, though they may never meet face to face, communicate with each other and the world at large through the Notes & Queries and the Reply columns of your excellent newspaper.

Ursula, Bryan and Jim from Australia, Donna and Margaret from Canada, Alan from Spain, Jim from New Zealand, to mention but a few of the many.

Their continued loyalty and commitment speaks volumes for the quality of the Guardian Weekly, its collection of feature writers and its editorial team.

My connection with the paper began many years ago as an impecunious student when the paper cost the princely sum of four old pence. Since then the Weekly has been a constant companion to my wife Marga and myself in our perambulations around Europe.

My habit of placing copies of the Weekly into the staff rooms and the libraries of various international schools caused the paper to be widely read. They were used extensively by teachers and students for their project work.

To my knowledge, several teachers became regular subscribers as a result of this exposure.

Well done all of you! Keep up the good work.
