Good to meet you... Christopher Taylor

Good to meet you… Christopher Taylor (and his son, Sebastian)

I’m a 28-year-old insurance fraud investigator from Durham. I’m a bit of a geek: I collect National Geographic magazines, atlases and flags.

I started reading the Guardian about five years ago when I used to pinch my dad’s paper after he had finished reading it. I am now addicted to reading the Guardian (and the Observer) in the bath. My guilty pleasure is Blind date, and I love the travel pull-out. I am a bit of an obsessive about Germany; I’ve visited Bavaria many times and I taught myself German. We have used the travel guides for trips to New York, the Lake District and Rome, where my wife Victoria and I had our honeymoon.

I am a vegetarian and we experiment with the Guardian’s recipes all the time. We love the new ideas and we especially love blending Asian dishes. I have a news rack in my kitchen that has a section each for the food and travel pull-outs: you can’t beat a Sunday flicking through both with a coffee. (I am also addicted to good coffee.) Twitter and the Guardian app are essential parts of my life. I am forever checking both and reading links that interest me.

I am a keen reader, currently pressing through Wolf Hall. My ambitions in life are to publish a book, sell a painting and to see Sunderland AFC win a trophy (I have had a season ticket with my dad for 20+ years now). One of these will never happen.

Our life in Durham is lovely; you should encourage readers to visit. It isn’t all flat caps and terraced houses. I love running and being outdoors, and some of the most beautiful countryside is here, and, of course, the best building in the country (world): Durham Cathedral. I would love to see the Guardian feature the north-east more: I am very proud of the area. It makes me very proud to see us get a mention.

I will continue to read because I love the political orientation and fairness of the paper. Most importantly, the ink doesn’t run in the bath.
