'Good shot': Video emerges of police shooting unarmed 16-year-old in head as he ran away

Newly-released footage has emerged of a police officer in the US shooting a teenager in the back of the head as he ran away.

Isiah Murietta Golding was 16 when he was shot by police in Fresno, California, in April 2017.

The teenager was unarmed at the time.

Video released by his family’s lawyer shows Murietta Golding climbing over a fence and running away as he is chased by two officers.

One officer aims his gun through the fence and fires a single shot, sending the teenager falling to the ground.

“Good shot,” one officer can be heard saying in police body camera footage.

Murietta Golding was wanted by police in connection with a shooting that led to a fatal car crash.

He was the passenger in a car which was pulled over by police.

Although he initially complied with the officers’ instructions, Murietta Golding then ran away and officers pursued him and shot him.

He died in hospital three days later.

An investigation by the City of Fresno’s Office of Independent Review concluded the shooting was justified and the city's police refused to release the footage..

The review office said the officers believed Murietta Golding was reaching for a gun when he reached for his waistband while looking at them over his shoulder.

Last year, Murietta Golding’s parents filed separate wrongful death lawsuits against the city of Fresno and several officers.

In a statement to the Washington Post, Fresno Police Chief Andy Hall defended the officer by saying Murietta Golding was “known to carry firearms”.

He said Murietta Golding’s brother later pleaded guilty to killing 19-year-old Eugenio Ybarra.
