A good samaritan from Co Fermanagh has been praised by a local man after he stopped to help him fix a punctured tyre.
Retired trade union worker Jim Quinn from Enniskillen was travelling along the Irvinestown Road in Enniskillen earlier this week when he blew a tyre.
While in the process of putting on the spare wheel a young gentleman offered up his assistance, saving Jim a fair bit of time as it had been a while since he had changed a tyre.
The young man reached out to Jim after he put out a post on Facebook to thank him, but said he did not want to be named.
“I was driving into the town on Tuesday evening, and I must have hit a stone or a kerb and I blew a tyre.
“I pulled into Dunnes, probably about 8 or 9pm in the evening, and it’s a long time from I’ve changed a tyre, so it took me a while to sort myself out.
“Just as I was putting on the new wheel, a young fella pulled up in a car and took over the whole operation.
“He put the tyre on, tightened the nuts, took the jack off and put everything back in the boot, the whole lot.
“I was really impressed that he bothered his head, most people would just drive on past you and let you sort yourself out.”
Jim added it was really refreshing to see a young man have such a sense of community these days.
“Me and him got chatting and he said he had taken that custom from his father.
“He said his father would never pass somebody on the road if he saw them stuck.
“Two things that you hear all the time now is that there’s no community and you hear a lot of criticism of young people.
“Well that young fella proved both of those things wrong in one very simple act.”
