When it comes to holding his peers accountable for their actions, Donald Trump rarely takes a stand. He is not only one of the most controversial political leaders in US history but also one of the most protective of those around him. However, in this instance, he is not advocating for the rights of Americans but rather shielding those who offer him unwavering support.
As Donald Trump continues to reach new lows of human existence while facing almost no repercussions, his well-wishers are giving him tough competition in the race to become the most problematic individual. Recently, one of Trump’s former sympathisers, pastor Robert Morris, was indicted on five counts of engaging in lewd acts with a child. He was accused of sexually abusing a 12-year-old woman during his youth.
After being found guilty, Robert Morris was sentenced to six months in prison and 9 years and 6 months on probation. He was also ordered to pay a lump sum amount as compensation for his crimes. Following the verdict, the victim, now 55 years old, said in a statement:
“..justice has finally been served, and the man who manipulated, groomed and abused me as a 12-year-old innocent girl is finally going to be behind bars.”
The situation has prompted a response from many individuals, but those who have remained quiet since the verdict are Donald Trump and his group of Republican brothers. However, the opposition is not letting this issue slide. They are criticising the U.S. President for his silence on the matter and pointing out his hypocrisy. Former U.S. Representative Adam Kinzinger, a well-known critic of Trump, called him out on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). In response to a post highlighting Trump’s silence regarding the sex offences committed by his former spiritual adviser, Kinzinger, one person wrote:
“Hey guys…. Good question.”
Trump will probably never speak about this, and even if he does, he will do so only to dismiss the claims of their friendship. If the latter happens, then this wouldn’t be the first time that Donald Trump withdraws his name from a scandal, the other one involving a disgraced sex offender whose name rhymes with sixteen.
