Good old days in Hua Hin

Holidaymakers visiting the famous resort from April 26-28 are encouraged to dress in period costumes and attend the "Hua Hin Railway Station: Memory Of Love" event, which will take place at the city's century-old train station, one of the most beautiful in the Kingdom.

Apart from enjoying the nostalgic and photogenic atmosphere of the station and an exhibition of old photographs that relate the history of the beachside city, participants can join a free guided tour which will take them to interesting sites in the old parts of the city, including old shops selling local goodies. This service is available not only on the said weekend but every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the month of April. The pseudo tram will leave the train station at 10am, 2pm and 5pm.

For more information, call the Tourism Authority of Thailand's local office on 032-513-885 or visit TAT Prachuap on Facebook.

Annual Rocket Festival

A number of communities in the Isan region observe the Bun Bang Fai (often called Rocket Festival in English) to ask a deity called Phya Thaen for rainfall for their farmlands. Khamcha-I may not be known for the most powerful rockets but as home to the Phu Thai ethnic group, the district's Bun Bang Fai tradition is no less interesting than those at other places.

This year, the event in Khamcha-I will be held on May 5 and 6. The traditional rockets will be paraded on the town's main streets on the first day and lit on the second. Traditional Performances and live music are on the card to entertain all who attend.

Trail running in Laos

Trail runners are a growing group of travellers. At the end of this month, many are headed to Savannakhet, home to That Ing Hang, one of the country's most revered pagodas. The Lao town sits on the opposite bank of the Mekong River from Thailand's northeastern city of Mukdahan.

The Savannakhet Trail 2019 is set to take place on March 31, with That Ing Hang as the starting point. Participants, who will be categorised by gender and age group, will choose to compete in the 30km, 10km or 5km races.

To apply, visit bit.ly/2LtjL0k. The website also provides details of events and rules, as well as information on transportation, attractions and accommodation in Savannakhet.
