Popular Portobello sports venue Powerleague have just announced a six-figure regeneration project, which will mean one brand new pitch, plus a full replacement of a second pitch.
Powerleague is a company which offers a variety of activities ranging from kids camps to football leagues, renting pitches to people who may simply be casual players, or players who are seeking a more competitive game of five-a-side football.
Ongoing rumours that Powerleague Portobello's five a-side football pitches would be sold have led to numerous petitions circulating the internet. Just one of these petitions - launched two years ago - received 1410 signatures, indicating that there is a clear desire for a place to exercise in Portobello.
Fortunately, contrary to these rumours Powerleague is making a six figure investment into renovating the facilities at Powerleague Portobello, which suggests the venue will be around for some time to come.
On 22 July the lights beside the pitches will be replaced with LED lighting. In addition, on 15 August, work will commence on the new seven-a-side football pitch, as well as the replacement of one of the five-a-side pitches.
Announcing the new investment on Facebook, Powerleague said:
"BREAKING NEWS!! ️
You have heard rumours, maybe even some whispers about our regeneration project BUT today we can confirm some EXCITING NEWS!!
On the 15th of August 2019, work will commence on our BRAND NEW 7's pitch and a full replacement of the 5's pitch, number 1."
