Good news for Bad Sisters as hit Irish black comedy nominated for Emmy Awards

Bad Sisters and Ted Lasso led the Irish hopes as HBO hit Succession made history in the 75th Emmy Award nominations.

Writer and lead actress Sharon Horgan gained two nods for the black comedy she developed about the Dublin-based Garvey sisters.

The first is for Lead Actress in a Drama Series while the second is in the writing category.

The show also gained nods in the Outstanding Directing For A Drama Series category (Dearbhla Walsh) and the Outstanding Casting For A Drama Series category (Nina Gold and Lucy Amos).

Meanwhile, former Father Ted director Declan Lowney was nominated for taking charge of the hugely successful comedy Ted Lasso.

But it was Succession which dominated again, receiving three lead actor nominations for its final season.

Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong and Kieran Culkin will go head to head at the 75th annual awards, after all receiving nods in the category. It marks the first time ever that three actors from the same series have been nominated simultaneously for Outstanding Lead Actor In A Drama Series.

Cox, Strong and Culkin all play members of the scheming Roy family in the drama, which wrapped up its fourth series earlier this year.

Sarah Snook, who plays Shiv Roy, was also nominated in the equivalent female category of Outstanding Lead Actress In A Drama Series, and it was also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series.

Succession has already earned 13 Emmys, including two Best Drama Series awards for seasons two and three.

The gongs are on September 18.
