'Good news!' - Arsenal fans send message to Unai Emery after Newcastle manager U-turn

Former Arsenal boss Unai Emery has turned down the vacant Newcastle United managerial position.

According to various reports, Emery was the leading candidate for the Magpies, who opted to sack Steve Bruce last month after a run of poor form in the Premier League.

The veteran Spanish coach looked all but set to leave his current role at Europa League champions Villarreal but eventually decided to stay with the La Liga outfit, claiming that he was flattered with Newcastle's interest but was happy at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Now, several Arsenal fans have taken to social media to voice their opinions on the news, with many of the Gunners' faithful admitting that they are glad they won't have to face a team managed by their former head coach.

Here is what a select few supporters reacted on Reddit.

Kintae said: "I don't blame him, he clearly didn't enjoy his time in England and to some degree, France too. He's more comfortable in Spain. Eddie Howe could be a good long-term appointment, but not sure if he's the person to keep them up this season."

Domkey-Kongg said: "Was fully prepared for Newcastle to become the new Europa League champions."

Echo361 said: "Good. Wasn’t looking forward to playing emery at all."

StonnyHardges said: "Good news, I feel uncomfortable with the prospect of us playing against Emery."

kajschmidt said: "Good decision I think for him. I never saw why he would prefer to be at Newcastle fighting relegation over Villarreal where he already established a decent, competitive team and won the UEL. And managing in the country where he is clearly most successful."

likpoper said: "Great news.. emery is a very good Spanish coach, he should go to barcelona instead."
