Good News: A round-up of this week’s cheeriest stories from Swifties in love to beavers making a comeback

Another week, another round-up of good news. We’ve got beavers, love-struck Swifties, and the sweet, sweet vocals of a certain Sindar Elf; honestly, there’s not much else you could ask for to send you into the weekend. Let’s begin!

The beavers are back (again)

If you’re anything like me, your days are spent pondering — nay, agonising — over when a certain beloved rodent would finally return to London. But fear not: beavers are making their way back to the capital in a big way.

Sadly, beavers were hunted into extinction across the UK 400 years ago. But that’s about to change!

After a failed first attempt (rest in peace Sigourney and Justin Beaver), London is having another go at reintroducing the friendly rodents to the capital.

London dwellers will be able to see the largely nocturnal animals in their humble abode once “beaver safaris” are launched.

If you’re not getting married at a Taylor Swift concert, what are you doing?

These two particular Swifties took the lyric “It’s a love story, baby, just say yes,” more literally than Taylor may have originally intended, but we’re all here for it anyway.

Fans haven’t just been enjoying Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, couple René Hurtado and Max Bochman actually got married during Swift’s first show in Arizona.

René and Max originally planned to go to the concert as part of their wedding reception, but eventually decided to actually tie the knot during the show.

Tickets for England v Ukraine to go to refugees and UK host families

England’s football team will be playing against Ukraine at Wembley Stadium in a Euro 2024 qualifier, and more than 1,000 tickets to see it will be given to Ukrainians and the British families who have welcomed them.

Chairman of the the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain, Petro Rewko, said: “Ukrainians everywhere have been overwhelmed by the kindness and compassion, which has allowed them to flee Russia’s brutal war against Ukraine and find a safe haven in Great Britain to start to rebuild their lives.

“We are immensely grateful to the FA and Wembley Stadium for donating tickets to displaced Ukrainians.”

England beat Ukraine 4-0 the last time the two countries played each other in the Euro 2020 quarter-finals in July 2021, with their next match against each other happening this Sunday.

Orlando Bloom sings She Moved Through the Fair

There’s plenty of ways you could expect your St. Patrick’s Day celebrations to go, but I bet this radio presenter didn’t expect to be serenaded by Legolas in a Windsor pub.

That’s right, none other than Orlando Bloom surprised revellers in a pub last Friday when he sang the traditional Irish folk song She Moved Through the Fair.

The moment was captured by Capital FM’s Chris Stark, who shared the baffling news on Twitter: “It’s honestly not the Guinness talking but Orlando Bloom has just started singing Irish songs in the pub I’m in...

“He’s actually really good.”

Bloom’s fiancee Katy Perry even weighed in, resharing the video with the caption “what a ledge”. Iconic.
