'Good move for both parties' - Manchester United sent message over Hannibal's future

Hannibal Mejbri heading back to Birmingham City on loan again from Manchester United would be a good move for both the player and the Championship club.

That's the view of former England midfielder Carlton Palmer. The 20-year-old Tunisia international has spent the recently concluded regular season in the second tier of English football with the Blues on loan from United.

He became a regular for John Eustace's side during that time. Birmingham ended the campaign in 17th place, with Mejbri playing 41 times in all competitions and scoring once, a free-kick in the win over West Bromwich Albion which was voted the Championship club's goal of the season.

Mejbri, who has played three times for the Old Trafford club, has a long-term deal at United running until the summer of 2026. It remains to be seen where he will be playing his football in the 2023/24 campaign.

But Palmer believes that after a 'decent' spell at St Andrew's, the Blues ought to try and secure the midfielder again on loan next season. The player himself has refused to rule out the possibility of returning to Birmingham next season and Palmer believes the question is now where he ends up on loan next campaign, which he feels ought to be at the Blues.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “Hannibal has had a decent loan spell at Birmingham City from his parent club Manchester United. He has gained some valuable experience, the 20-year-old has featured in 38 games this season.

“If Birmingham City could secure his services again that would be a good move for both parties. He's obviously going to go out on loan again, so the question is where he will go on loan. The player said he is open to a move of going back to Birmingham, open to the opportunity of doing that he just wants to do pre-season and see where he is.”
