Good Morning Britain viewers 'spit out coffee' after Ed Balls' spray tan question to Andi Peters

Good Morning Britain viewers said they were left 'spitting out' their coffee this morning as Ed Balls asked Andi Peters an unexpected question live on air. The presenter was back at the helm of the ITV news programme on Tuesday (July 11) alongside Susanna Reid.

And as ever, Andi was on hand to bring viewers all the latest competition news and this morning, he was seen in Rome where he paid a visit to the Trevi Fountain. But it was Ed who ended up making a bit of an error when he decided to get Andi involved on one of the topics they were discussing on the show.

At the end of the programme, viewers saw TOWIE star Harry Derbridge and Love Island's Liberty Poole debate whether a 'tan tax' should be implemented by hotels after research found that stains from fake tan and heavy make-up on bedding and towels cost the hotel industry nearly £1.8 million a year.

And earlier, Susanna and Ed discussed how they felt about the tanning procedure and asked various guests including show regulars Andrew Pierce and Kevin Maguire.

But while introducing their daily competition segment, the camera did a split screen of Andi in Rome and the topic was obviously still on former Labour MP Ed's mind as he said: "Spray tan Andi..." to which the TV star gestured to his arms and quipped: "What do you think Ed?"

Laughter was heard as Andi added: ‘I’ve been like this…." but in an attempt to make light of the situation, Susanna interjected: "He didn’t want to presume."

Before moving on to discuss the competition and share the rules on how to enter, Andi replied: "Ed, the money I’ve spent for 52 years looking like this, if there’s anyone from L’Oréal, Garnier, any of them watching, I’ve invested a lot in your company."

And while then cracked on with the competition details, GMB viewers couldn't help but comment on social media. @rhimchugh tweeted: "'Spraytan, Andi?' Nearly spat my coffee across the room #GMB." @Northumbrian0 meanwhile asked: "Did Ed Balls really just ask Andi Peters if he has a SPRAY TAN?? #gmb."
