Richard Madeley has come under fire over his remarks while questioning Labour Party leader Keir Starmer earlier today.
The Good Morning Britain host wanted answers from Starmer about deputy leader Angela Rayner's comments at Labour Party conference where she described Conservative MPs as "scum".
Starmer was on the morning show to discuss potential exclusion zones for those who campaign against vaccines and spread lies and falsehoods outside schools.
However, Madeley had other ideas and wanted to speak about inner-party politics in Labour.
The presenter referenced a news article at the weekend that suggested Starmer was 'sidelining' Rayner in favour of Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves.
He said: "Is it true, as it was reported in several Sunday newspapers yesterday, from well place sources that you are now sidelining Angela Rayner because of her comments about Tory scum, that you found those embarrassing and obviously in the light of the terrible events that happened two Friday's ago incredibly poorly timed and that you're keeping her out of sight and bringing other people forward.
"Is that true?"
Starmer replied: "No that's not true, every Sunday I get all of the newspapers and faithfully go through them and read lots of things that are apparently happening but bear no relation to the truth."
Madeley then asked: "So she's still your best girl is she?"
GMB viewers hit out at Madeley on social media over his "best girl" remark on the show this morning.
Paul Bellshaw wrote: "'Best Girl'? Really?"
Twitter user @corbo said: "Best girl' Richard is so out of touch."
One viewer said: "Is she still your best girl" Peak Partridge for Richard there."
CazzyLou said: "Madeley asks is Angela Rayner still Kier Starmer's "best girl"."
Tracey wrote: “She’s still your best girl is she?” FFS @richardm56 how condescending!"
Fi tweeted: "Richard Madeley asking Kier Starmer if Angela Rayner is still "his best girl", followed by a face-palming emoji.
And Jen commented: "Another foot in mouth moment."
