Good Morning Britain viewers praise new presenter Martin Lewis

Viewers of Good Morning Britain have been praising this week's new presenter, Martin Lewis, as the Money Saving Expert becomes the latest to fill the seat vacated by Piers Morgan earlier this year.

People watching the show, which is also fronted by Susanna Reid, commented that the consumer whizz was a "breath of fresh air" and a calm presence, unlike previous hosts like Morgan and, more recently, Richard Madeley who regularly clashed with health expert, Dr Hilary.

Martin, who regularly appears on the morning show giving financial advice, explained that he'd recently had dental surgery.

He said: "The timing of this hasn’t been the best for me. I had quite substantial dental surgery planned just after my show finished, which was a couple of weeks ago."

Martin Lewis had his first day as main presenter of GMB today (ITV)

But that didn't stop him from taking former Conservative MP, Edwina Currie, to task when she appeared on the show defending former UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock, who resigned over the weekend after he was caught on camera kissing an aide in his ministerial office.

Lewis pointed out the Nolan Principles to Currie, the seven principles of public life, (selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership) and viewers were on board for the take down.

One wrote: "Martin Lewis just handed the very much deflecting Edwina Currie her a*se live on #gmb That's my morning set up perfectly."

Another said: "Martin Lewis quoting Nolan Principles to Edwina Currie .. she’s trying to defend Hancock and ministers in general... it’s shocking..."

But mostly viewers were just loving his non-shoutiness and lack of interruptions:

You can see Good Morning Britain on ITV, from 6.30am, weekdays.
