Good Morning Britain viewers left sobbing as show pays powerful tribute to 100k deaths

Good Morning Britain viewers were left in tears today as the show paid tribute to the 100,000 deaths due to coronavirus.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Boris Johnson held a press conference in which he apologised for the death toll, which is now the highest in Europe.

To pay tribute, GMB hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid shared the stories of some of those who had sadly died from the virus.

This included the harrowing story of a taxi driver who had been spat at by a customer claiming he had Covid-19 over a £9 fare. He died weeks later.

After the tribute, Piers said: "They're real people, they're real human beings."

And viewers took to Twitter to express their heartbreak over the tribute, with one tweeting: "#gmb has me in tears this morning."

While another commented: "#GMB is absolutely devastating this morning so sad."

"Powerful from @GMB Heartbreaking. Those poor families all 10 000 + of them. #gmb," another commented.

A fan wrote: "This is so sad and really hits home #GMB."

Among the tributes was also one dedicated to Doris Hobday, one of the Tipton Twins, who sadly died of Covid-19, leaving sister Lils.

Watching Lils looking 'lost' on the programme left fans devastated, with one commenting: "In tears watching #GMB, poor Lil looks so lost my heart goes out to her and all the families who have lost a loved one."
