Good Morning Britain viewers fume as Richard Madeley mocks Scarlett Moffatt

Richard Madeley came under fire from some Good Morning Britain viewers after "mocking" Scarlett Moffatt.

The Gogglebox star joined Good Morning Britain this morning to talk about finding religion and her new spiritual journey. Scarlett is set to take part in new BBC show Pilgrimage: The Road to the Scottish Isles which will see her and other celebrities visiting places of worship in Ireland and Scotland. Tested physically and mentally as they journey through the countries in search of enlightenment, she will be joined by the likes of Emmerdale actor Louisa Clein and Apprentice advisor Nick Hewer.

While on the show, she said after the interview was finished she would be attempting to pass her driving theory test after years of struggling to do so. Finding humour in the topic, GMB hosts Richard Madeley and Kate Garraway teased the I'm A Celeb winner but some fans felt Richard's comments went a little too far.

Recapping Scarlett's confession, he said: "You failed your driving test 13 times and today you go for your 14th theoretical test. Before we put you through a couple of questions, we'll have to be quick about this, why do you keep failing?" He added: "13 is a heck of a lot of failures."

Taking the comments in her stride, Scarlett said: "Yeah it is, isn't it. I don't know if I knew that I'd probably pass my test." After a quiz round which saw Scarlett answer what a variety of different road signs mean, the GMB hosts wished her good luck as she prepared for her test.

Some watching the interview were less than impressed with the tone they felt Richard took with Scarlett, calling him "rude" and "condescending". @YouBearsssssss said: "I'm no Scarlett Moffatt Fan BUT They are actively taking the p*** out of her on National TV for Failing her Driving Test 13 Times..... How about the Other people who have failed hardly filling them with Confidence!!! #GMB"

@CrazyGoat1 said: "Does Richard Madeley enjoy being rude and condescending to people? Poor Scarlett Moffat!! @GMB #gmb" @dwangeddy added: "Madely laughing at Scarlett s failures and he lost on the Chase and only lasted 5 minutes in the celebrity jungle #GMB"

Scarlett's new show Pilgrimage: The Road to the Scottish Isles starts April 8 at 9pm on BBC Two.
