Good Morning Britain viewers divided over schedule change - all because of Piers Morgan

If you thought Good Morning Britain had been a bit quiet over the festive period, you wouldn't be mistaken.

And it was probably due to one of its biggest characters being absent.

But ITV viewers were left divided this morning when Piers Morgan made his big return to the early morning news programme.

This is because the network has undergone a shake up of its daytime TV schedule following The Jeremy Kyle Show being axed last year.

To fill in the gap left by the controversial talk show, both GMB and This Morning have been extended by 30 minutes.

The presenting pair made their grand return but not everyone was happy (ITV)

This means that Good Morning Britain now starts at 6am and runs until 9am and Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby are on air from 10am instead of 10.30am.

But instead of Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid appearing for the duration, the first half an hour is instead anchored by Charlotte Hawkins bringing the latest headlines.

And viewers were quick to have their say on the change after thinking the morning duo would be there from the start.

"#GMB Is this the new format? If so not happy as only watch until 6:30 so no longer going to see #piersmorgan. It was my morning laugh. Not happy," tweeted one.

Another demanded that Piers gets to fill the earlier slot by saying: "@GMB upset with the new format already #gmb #piersfrom6"

A third echoed: "@GMB bring back @piersmorgan and @susannareid100 from 6 not 6.30 #GMB."

"No no no. This is wayyyyy too dull and boring for 6am... you’ve missed the whole point of having @piersmorgan on #gmb. To wake everyone up at the start. Ffs," said another.

Others, however, quite like the quieter start to their morning.

"@CharlotteHawkns What a great change it was to have you presenting on your own this morning. You did a good job, and the local News and Weather came on at 6-15am like it should do," praised one.

Charlotte now presents solo from 6am before Piers and Susanna arrive (ITV)

A second added: "Nice to wake up to some #News B4 the Egos arrive at 6.30 #GMB Should say Overpaid Egos @piersmorgan."

"Well Charlotte and Laura can speak without Piers Morgan talking over them #GMB," commented a third.

Another said: "I'm actually enjoying the new @GMB format. 30 minutes of uninterrupted news and can I just say that Charlotte is doing a brilliant job at it. #GMB."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
