Good Morning Britain still in technical chaos as sound desk makes awkward blunder

Good Morning Britain was still marred by electrical problems one day on from a huge power cut that nearly took the show off air.

Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard revealed on Tuesday morning that the entire studio was plunged into darkness and they were left without printing equipment, lighting, microphones, and a server to allow them to talk to guests via video link.

And on Wednesday, the show was still not quite plain sailing as the sound team accidentally started playing the loud theme music midway through Laura Tobin's weather report.

Laura was telling viewers about the upcoming sunny weather, when she looked briefly startled as the music played.

Styling it out, she quipped: "Let's talk about this warmer weather coming, it's so exciting it gets a fanfare!"

When the camera cut back to Ben and his co-host Charlotte Hawkins, they were laughing about the accidental gaffe.

Ben joked: "I think we should have more sound effects during Laura's weather report!"

"Do you know what, when the sun is coming, that deserves a fanfare doesn't it?" added Charlotte.

"I wonder what they spilt over the sound desk," laughed Ben, as the team behind the camera played a "fail" sound effect.

Charlotte is presenting alongside Ben as Kate takes a mid-week break from the show amid an incredibly stressful time for her and her family.

She is currently dealing with raising her children alone as her husband, Derek Draper, recovers in hospital from a coronavirus battle that left him in a medically induced coma.

She also suffered from an exploded tyre while on a busy motorway on the weekend, losing control of the car and pulling over on to a busy road as there was nowhere else to go.

The presenter said on Monday: "You know people say God and the universe doesn't send you what you can't deal with?

"I would like to put a message out, I am at my limit, I am at my absolute limit now.

"If the universe could just give me a calm Monday!"

* Good Morning Britain airs on weekdays on ITV at 6am
