Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid slammed for 'absolute ignorance' during interview

Susanna Reid promptly issued an on-air apology after making a "cringe worthy" comment when interviewing a lesbian couple.

Married couple Megan and Whitney were being interviewed on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday morning when Susanna made the "ignorant" remark.

The pair appeared on the ITV breakfast show via video-call to discuss the fertility discrimination they claim they faced from the NHS, as reported by Yorkshire Live.

During the interview, Susanna asked the social media influencers: "What are your dreams? You know? What are your hopes? Who wants to be mum? How many children would you like to have?"

Megan and Whitney quickly corrected the host, stating: "Well, we want to be mum."

Susanna immediately made an apology for her question, stating: "Of course you will both be mum. Of course you will. Sorry for that insensitivity, that insensitive remark."

Good Morning Britain viewers have since criticised Susanna for her question on social media.

One wrote: "They will both be mums to their children. You don't have to be biologically related or carry your child to be a mother."

Another questioned: "Who wants to be mum? Can you hear us back there in the 1950s, Susanna?"

"Absolute ignorance," a third watcher tweeted, adding: "This is the ongoing rubbish gay people tolerate on ongoing basis".

A fourth viewer posted: "Unfortunately it was cringe worthy watching Susanna interviewing. 'Who is going to be mum? And who will be carrying' really?!

"Would you ask a hetro couple if they are planning on using donor sperm and will that make them a 'real' dad."

Another wrote: "I'm quite surprised how ignorant Susanna came across in that interview."
