Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley slams protester for 'doing a Piers Morgan'

Richard Madeley slammed a protester for 'doing a Piers Morgan' after a fiery exchange on today's show.

The 65-year-old broadcaster was joined by Susanna Reid on Wednesday's edition of the ITV news programme.

They interviewed Insulate Britain activist Liam Norton after members of his protest group had blocked the M25.

Thirty-eight climate protesters from Insulate Britain have been arrested after they walked onto the busy carriageway to block oncoming traffic.

The group came under fire for the protests last week after a mum was left partially paralysed as the paramedics were unable to get her to the hospital after she had suffered a stroke.

The interview immediately got off to an explosive start when Susanna Reid suggested she was all for a peaceful protest, but blasted the Insulate Britain activists' tactics as being detrimental to their cause .

Liam shot back: "You’re an intelligent journalist. And you haven’t understood what I said last week about what we do in the next three to four years will determine the future of humanity."

Susanna Reid snapped at the protester and demanded him to stop being so patronising - before Richard Madeley stepped in.

Richard said: "You’re not accepting the responsibility of your actions."

The clash then erupted as the two continually kept talking over one another.

Richard was left in disbelief after the protester drew comparisons between himself and Winston Churchill.

Liam snapped at this point and stood up in his chair before declaring: "I’ve had enough of talking to people in this country about what we’re doing. This is the state of things."

The Insulate Britain campaigner proceeded to storm off the set, while Richard laughed and compared the walk-off to an infamous moment from the ITV show earlier this year.

He said: "You're doing a Piers. Bye.

"Ladies and Gentlemen watching this programme, we now know these protesters are following in the footsteps of Winston Churchill."
