Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley makes awkward error live on TV

Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley has came under fire from viewers after a blunder on today's show.

The 65-year-old broadcaster was joined by Susanna Reid on Monday's edition of the breakfast news programme.

The two interviewed former Prime Minister Gordon Brown to discuss the global vaccine rollout.

However, as they were discussing the practicalities of distributing the vaccine across the world, viewers of the show noticed Richard committed a geographical gaffe.

He said: "It's not just loading these boxes onto plans and flying them out to countries like Africa, we've got to have the infrastructure to be able to deliver the jabs haven't we."

Gordon Brown moved past the error by explaining how they are currently working on the vaccine rollout across the continent.

He explained: "Yes we've been working on that as well and we're getting the money to give it to African countries so that they can build up their ability to administer the vaccines not just in the cities but in the rural areas and the small towns."

However, fans of the show took to Twitter to blast the presenter after the gaffe.

@ItsInsense said: "Jesus Christ. Richard Madeley just called Africa a country on #GMB."

@miss_sahhara commented: "RICHARD!!!! AFRICA IS NOT A COUNTRY!!! ITS A CONTINENT! "Countries like Africa"

@CarolineCadRae added, alongside an eye-roll meme: "Countries like Africa"

@clairelsimpson said: "third world", "countries like Africa. Not sure Richard Madeley belongs on TV in 2021."

@ComradeDelBoy responded: "He didn't say that... Please tell me he didn't say that."

*GMB continues at 6am on ITV and ITVHub tomorrow
