Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley apologises after 'sexist' comment

Richard Madeley has been called out for a 'sexist' comment during an interview.

The Good Morning Britain host was interviewing a campaigner from Insulate Britain on Wednesday October 27, when he stopped mid-way to apologise for a word he used, Manchester Evening News reports.

In a heated debate, Richard, 65, was firing questions at Tracey Mallaghan from Insulate Britain and accused her of risking lives by blocking major road networks.

Defending Insulate Britain protestors targeting the M25 this week, Tracey insisted: "Kids face an unimaginable future Richard..."

As she spoke passionately about the cause, Richard tried to calm her down, addressing her as 'darling'.

Richard replied: "You are not answering the question, are you?"

The demonstrator hit back: "You are not asking the right questions. Is it because you are heartless or too scared? I am genuinely perplexed that journalists are not asking the right questions here."

Richard said: "Well, my questions are my decision, to be honest with you..."

She snapped back: "Do you know what a 2 degree world looks like? Why can't we talk about it? That is the question Richard.

"A 95 percent chance of a 2 degree world for our children, do you know what looks like?"

Richard said: "What you are doing, darling..."

He then stopped himself, saying: "Sorry to call you darling."

"You have already been told off about that sweetheart," the activist snapped back, referring to when the host called parenting expert Jane Evans 'darling' last week.

Richard ploughed on, saying: "Yes it is a showbiz thing, we call everybody darling. It's a habit of mine and I find it hard to stop.

"Let's just get back to the question. I completely take that back."

The activist added: "Please, ask the right questions Richard!"

The tense interview continued with Tracey becoming fed up with Richard's questions while the presenter slammed her for her refusal to answer.

He said: "Your technique, and it is a technique and you're obviously quite skilled at it, is never to answer questions.

"You simply come up with a series of questions of our own. And that is not an honest way to do an interview."

Tracey responded: "All of our children are in trouble. You have to stop this. Are you too scared, heartless or are you stupid, Richard? Do you not understand?"

He hit back: "You said that five times, I'm not stupid and I'm not heartless and I don't really like you patronising me."

Throughout the entire interview, the two had been clashing over the eco-protesters methods of campaigning.

It includes blocking road access and glueing body parts to the ground.
