Good Morning Britain's Piers Morgan reacts to the General Election 2019 result - and puts it down to one thing

Piers Morgan has given his verdict on the 2019 General Election result - and he puts it down to one thing.

The Good Morning Britain presenter was joined by his fellow co-host Susanna Reid and a handful of political figures for a election special of the popular ITV breakfast show.

Boris Johnson and the Conservative party came out on top during this election with a landslide victory.

The Conservatives are expected to finish up on 364 seats and therefore command a majority.

Jeremy Corbyn and the Labour party suffered a devastating defeat, with the leader announcing he will be standing down after taking just 203 seats.

Lib Dem leader Jo Swinson also quit as leader after losing her seat.

Morgan put the result of this election down to one simple message - 'Get Brexit done.'

He told GMB viewers: "The simplicity of that Boris Johnson campaign will be a template for many other campaigns I'm sure.

"This simple message, 'get Brexit done,' that's all he kept saying in every interview he gave."

Morgan went on to say that "I know people that were not Boris Johnson fans, not Conservative voters, but in the back of their heads they were like, 'I just want to get this over and done with.'"

"It resonated with the public," Morgan said.

The controversial presenter also taunted taunts celebs including Hugh Grant and Steve Coogan and accused them of helping Boris Johnson win a landslide.

Morgan took to Twitter shortly after the results of the first exit polls were announced at 10pm and tweeted: "Congrats Hugh Grant & Steve Coogan - you helped get Boris a landslide."

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
