Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway to be replaced by her pal in sweet gesture

Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway will not be hosting the ITV show on Friday as originally planned.

Susanna Reid is helping out her friend and colleague by returning to work early in a sweet gesture.

On today's (Thursday August 19) show of Good Morning Britain, Kate Garraway told the viewers that although she was due to host Friday's broadcast, the plan has now changed.

Her co-host Richard Bacon explained that he would now be joined by Susanna for the last show, BirminghamLive reports.

They revealed that Kate will be taking a break from presenting to spend some quality time with her children.

But it might have bittersweet sweet moments as her husband Derek will not be joining them.

On air Richard said: "Good for you getting away on a holiday, I think Susanna is in tomorrow now, is that right?"

"I just want to say a massive thank you to Susanna," Kate said.

"She’s been really kind. I had a very tight window where everybody could come and look after Derek, so I could take the kids away.

"Obviously he’ll have nurses as well."

Kate explained how Derek is still continuing his recovery from Covid-19 at home, having been in a coma last year for the majority of the year following his diagnosis.

"We’re quite emotional, the three of us, going on holiday without him," she added. "I wondered if that would be too strange to do…We need to do it, to have a little bit of time and to come back refreshed."

Kate concluded: "Susanna has come off her holiday for one day only to present the show tomorrow to allow me to go on holiday.

"So thank you, Susanna."

ITV Good Morning Britain returns tomorrow with Richard and Susanna, and the former Blue Peter host will present alongside Ranvir Singh next Monday in the final of his four appearances on GMB.
