Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway's heartfelt message to everyone who has supported her

Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has issued a heartfelt plea to everybody who has supported her while her husband Derek Draper has battled Covid-19 for more than a year.

The presenter has filmed every step of Derek's year-long battle with coronavirus since he was admitted to hospital in March, 2000.

The couple's emotional journey will be broadcast in a fly-on-the-wall documentary, Finding Derek, will be on ITV at 9pm tonight (Tuesday, March 23).

Kate said in a tweet this morning: "Thank you so much for all your lovely comments - your support means so much to me and others.

"I hope you find some comfort and hope from the documentary and do get in touch with me to share your thoughts - either here or email me."

Kate “fears the reality” of giving up her job on Good Morning Britain in order to offer her husband Derek Draper 24-hour care.

The former political adviser, 53, remains in hospital after being admitted with coronavirus symptoms in March last year, before being placed in a coma.

She suggested they would have a “completely different dynamic” in their marriage when he is able to leave hospital.

In the ITV documentary Finding Derek, she is seen renovating the ground floor of their family home so it is wheelchair accessible ahead of his possible return.

She tells their son Bill: “You know that we are hoping that dad will get better and better, but when he comes home he will probably need to be in a wheelchair, so we are trying to make it so he can do all this.

“And if I have to give up work to care for him then it is best to do it now when I am earning money.

“If he needs 24-hour care I will be the primary carer. I have a fear of the reality of that life. It is a completely different dynamic to our relationship.”
