Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway 'reeling' from Plymouth shootings

Kate Garraway admitted she was 'reeling' from news of the shootings in Plymouth on Thursday evening which resulted in six fatalities.

Shortly after 6pm, police were called to the Keyham area of the port city, after reports that a man had opened fire at members of the public.

Confirming the deaths, a spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police later said: "Police were called to a serious firearms incident in Biddick Drive, in the Keyham area of Plymouth at around 6.10pm.

"Officers and ambulance staff attended the scene and following attendance at the scene, two females and two males were deceased at the scene.

"A further male, believed to be the offender, was also deceased at the scene. All are believed to have died from gunshot wounds.

"Another female treated at the scene for gunshot wounds, died a short time later in hospital."

News of the shootings in Plymouth, covered in detail by Plymouth Live , rocked the local community and sent shockwaves right around the country.

Understandably, it was one of the big stories on Friday's Good Morning Britain, with presenter Kate saying she 'never expected' something like that to happen in Plymouth.

She said: "I think they're still reeling, I'm still reeling it doesn't make any sense.

"Details are still very very sketchy but it seems on the face of it without any kind of explanation. Plymouth is not a place that you expect mass shootings."

Kate and Charlotte were then joined by local MP Luke Pollard, live from Plymouth, who told them: "This is just an unspeakable set of events that has taken place.

"Keyham is a tight knit community, it's a place where you know your neighbours and you look out for one another and to have something like this take place here is utterly devastating for the community.

"It is busy part of town and last night when the shootings took place there would have been people on the streets; people walking to the nearby park.

"Having spoken to a lot of residents, last night and this morning, there is an awful lot of people who have been caught up in the shooting.

"Not just those who were shot, but those who witnessed the event and those who feel that this is an attack on an entire community.

He added: "This kind of stuff doesn't happen here. Plymouth is a safe city by and large and the sense that people are waking up with here is this awful shock, devastation and disbelief."
