Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway has wonderful wish for husband Derek

Kate Garraway has issued a moving wish for her husband Derek as he continues his recovery from Coronavirus.

The 54-year-old broadcaster hosted today's episode of the ITV news programme with Charlotte Hawkins.

During a segment on the National Television Awards, Charlotte congratulated Kate after her Finding Derek documentary had been nominated for a prize.

The film, which documents Derek's battle after he fell critically ill with long-Covid, has been shortlisted in the Authored Documentary category.

And an emotional Kate expressed her wish that Derek would be well enough to attend the ceremony.

She said: "I think the ceremony is the 9th September. Wouldn't it be wonderful if Derek is well enough to come? Wouldn't it be wonderful?"

"I was trying to work out the dates and see the logistics of how that might work. There's some brilliant people in the category and I don't think for a moment we'd win. It would just be lovely for him to be there."

Panellists Kevin Maguire and Amanda Platel agreed it would be 'beautiful' if Kate's wish could come true.

Amanda said; "We'll say our prayers for you."

*GMB continues at 6am on ITV and ITVHub tomorrow
