Good Morning Britain's Kate Garraway delivers moving opening statement as show breaks with tradition

Kate Garraway delivered a moving opening to Good Morning Britain as the show broke with tradition to air on Sunday, as The Queen's coffin was due to leave Balmoral.

While, in the aftermath o f The Queen's death on Thursday, ITV took the decision to pull programmes like Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women, GMB went ahead on Friday morning and, in an unexpected move from the broadcaster, aired live again on Saturday, with Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid at the helm.

Kate appeared on Saturday's show from outside Buckingham Palace to react to King Charles III's first address to the nation the night earlier. The presenter said she felt the 'very real' emotion in the new monarch's speech, praising him for 'reassuring the country' in difficult times.

ITV also chose to air Good Morning Britain on Sunday, the day The Queen's coffin began its journey from Balmoral to Holyrood House in Edinburgh. After the opening moments outlined what would be coming up, the camera cut to Kate in the studio, who said: "Well hello. This is a special edition of Good Morning Britain, at an unusual time, because these are unusual times.

"And we wanted to be ab e to bring you live, the Queen's final journey and to understand the events of the days ahead and reflect on what it means for all of us.

"So we'll be with you as she begins that more than 500 mile journey."

Kate then crossed to live to Richard Gaisford who as at Balmoral as he explained the journey the Queen's coffin would be taking and the fact that members of the Royal Family were expected to travel from there to Edinburgh.
