Good Morning Britain's heartbreaking NHS tribute leaves viewers in tears

Good Morning Britain viewers were left in tears on Wednesday morning after hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid paid a heartbreaking tribute to NHS workers who've lost their lives to coronavirus.

On Tuesday the nation fell silent in tribute to the keyworkers who've died from COVID-19 while fighting the frontline battle against the global pandemic.

And then, less than 24 hours later, Piers and Susanna paid their own tribute by reading out the names of the 105 members of NHS staff who have died after being struck down by coronavirus.

With the screen behind them lit up with the faces of those who had died and gave their name and what they did.

They finished the tribute with footage from yesterday's minute silence to recognise the work that the NHS had done.

The poignant tribute struck a chord with the millions of people tuning into GMB from their homes. One viewer tweeted: "Wow what a truly emotionally and outstanding tribute this morning to all those in healthcare who have lost their lives. That was truly moving reading out all names and ending on falling silent."

In agreement, another reacted: "Well done for putting names to the faces; listening to the daily briefings hearing the huge numbers of deaths it's mind blowing but every number as a name and a loved one missing them."

The show cut to an a commercial break following the tear-jerking memoriam and, returning from the ads, Piers said: "Can I say, one thing people have spotted there is how extraordinarily multicultural and diverse both the NHS and social care system is,"

"Absolutely, the NHS would fall apart without them," Dr Hilary Jones agreed, admitting the tribute had made him feel "emotional".
