Good Morning Britain's Easter Weekend litter plea amid rubbish 'explosion' since lockdown eased

Good Morning Britain is urging people to taken litter home this Easter weekend as public spaces across the UK have been left covered in “detritus” since lockdown rules were lifted.

Presenters Ranvir Singh and Charlotte Hawkins condemned the “shocking” scenes at public parks and greens in cities including Nottingham and Cardiff as temperatures have swelled this week.

Groups of up to six, or two households, can socialise in parks and gardens once more, while outdoor sports facilities can reopen after the stay-at-home order ended on Monday as part of Boris Johnson’s roadmap out of lockdown.

Bristol and Cheltenham has also seen it’s fair share of littering this week, with pictures emerging of piles of litter being left on The Downs yesterday.

Ranvir Singh, while discussing The Mirror’s front page this morning, said: “One of the consequences of people going out has been the explosion of litter and it’s on the front of the Mirror today.”

Charlotte Hawkins added to the debate: “People leave this kind of detritus behind them and think it’s acceptable.”

Richard Gaisford said he has seen people in London leave whole plastic picnic blankets behind.

“They just leave it there with everything on it,” he added.

Conditions are expected to remain dry and sunny for Bristol over the next four days, with temperatures expected to peak at 15C at about 4pm - relatively cooler compared to the highs of mid 20s yesterday.
