Good Morning Britain's Dr Hilary Jones warns against firms selling 'fake' home testing kits for coronavirus

Health expert Dr Hilary Jones has warned people against buying fake home testing kits for Covid-19.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, he was advising on whether he thought 100,000 tests per day by the end of April was feasable.

He said: "We may well have 100,000 antigen tests per day. These are tests that tell whether you have the virus now.

"It's a much harder proposition to get antibody tests as we've heard. The answer will rely on good science.

"There are plenty of tests around the world from China, Korea, from the states. But if they're not accurate, they're of no value to us whatsoever."

He added: "We need tests that actually measure antibody that is completely specific to Covid-19, otherwise the test will do more harm than good.

"There are people working round the clock all around the country trying to find a good antibody test, and it would be great if the UK come up with the best one in the world.

"It's not there yet, the most important test is the antigen test right now."

He then issued a stark warning to viewers, saying: "There are a number of firms who are immorally selling what they call antibody tests to members of the public who are scared and frightened and would like such a test.

"The Department of Health and Social Care are saying there are no CE marks or validated tests for home use, and it is illegal to supply such products.

"It's really important that you don't fall for the marketing practices of certain disreputable firms. There is no good antibody test available for sale for the public at the moment."

"Some of the prices are eye-watering," he continued.

"Over £250 for a test that doesn't work. It's frankly dangerous."

Good Morning Britain continues weekdays on ITV at 6am.
